Why On Earth Do We Play Golf?

May 15th, 2008 by libbybrady200

So, why do we play golf? To me, I can answer that very easily. The only thing is that I can go on and on explaining why it’s the greatest game in the world.

We can all go out and play a sport against the very best professionals in the world regardless of our size, age, experience and talent, but 100 times out of 100 we would get absolutely anialated! Take football (soccer) for example. Ronaldinho would not give you a touch. Rugby, boxing or American Football would literally kill you! Cricket, you would be out for a duck, tennis would be pointless and Grand Prix, you’d get lapped many many times.

But Golf. You could (in theory) phone Tiger Woods up, meet him down at the local golf course and with your handicap you could actually beat him!

How cool is that?

Answer: VERY. It’s the whole handicap system that makes it the totally unique game that it is. Fair enough, if we all teed off from scratch then you’d get beat, but having a handicap is the RULE. So apart from beating the best player in the world, the game is very simple. And very addictive and satisfying. There are thousands and thousands of courses in the world, every single one is different with it’s own hazards that challenges all that play.

But as simple as the nature of the game is to get that little ball into the whole in as few shots as possible, there is a whole world of knowledge that can be learned about how to play better golf. How to drive off the tee, How to hit a fairway shot, from the rough, from the bunker and how to putt. And it’s those tips and lessons that are continuing to be taught to everyone from the amateur to the top professionals.

How to Reduced the Noise Produced by a PC

May 13th, 2008 by libbybrady200

Having a noisy computer can be irritating. Especially if you’re trying to listen to some smooth music or playing some games. This article is an attempt to reveal some basic techniques for reducing PC noise. Let’s get started …

Tip 1: Relocate the PC

The Moving the PC off the desk and onto the floor, especially if a few feet away from the main work area, will help reduce the perceived noise level.

Tip 2: Use Power Management

The hard disk drives are a major contributor the noise level in the system. Modern hard disks, when placed in a system with a BIOS that supports power management features (most do) can be instructed to spin down after a period of inactivity. This will reduce the noise level of the PC if you do a fair bit of activity without accessing the hard disk.

Tip 3: Don’t Add Redundant Fans

Some system cases have places where you can add additional fans to improve the air flow in the case. While this aids in cooling, too many fans contribute to the general racket of the PC. Don’t add more fans if this is a concern.

Tip 4: Ensure the Case is Fully Closed

The PC will make much more noise if it is run with the cover off. In addition, if any of the drive bays are not covered, or if expansion slots are missing their metal inserts, noise will “leak out” these spaces. These gaps also interfere with air flow within the case, and therefore prevent optimal cooling of the PC.

Tip 5: Replace the CPU Fan If Noisy

Some CPU fans create a lot of noise; I’ve bought some that sounded like a jet getting ready for take-off. A replacement fan may much less noise; the better the quality of the fan, in general the quieter it is. A decent one should cost only about $10 or so.

Conclusion

Whew! That’s a lot of material on cutting PC noise. Hopefully, you can try out these tips and get a quieter PC to work with from now on. Good luck and happy computing!

What is a Motherboard?

May 12th, 2008 by libbybrady200

A Motherboard (or System Board) is a one of the most essential parts of not just the computer, but many electronics such as televisions and stereos. Also referred to as a Mobo, this component is in charge of relaying information between all the different components connected to it. It’s safe to say the microprocessor is the heart of the computer and the motherboard is the body and structure. The system board itself is made up of chips, transistors, and circuits. The different components, such as the video card, pci cards, and the memory modules talk to each other by transferring data and information along the circuits, or buses on the system board. Pretty much all the internal components of a computer are connected to the system board.

Every motherboard operates off of a BIOS (Basic Input/Output System), which is basically a small program inside a chip on the board that controls how the motherboard operates and handles the components connected to it. When you first turn your computer on, before your operating system loads up, you are seeing your BIOS in action. All those gobbled up words running across the screen is your BIOS running its self tests to see what all is connected to the motherboard, and if there is any problems with any of the components.

When building your own computer, making sure the motherboard you choose has the correct socket for the processor you choose is crucial. Most computer builders pick out a processor first and then choose a motherboard accordingly. So I you were to pick out a Socket 478 Pentium 4 processor then you have to make sure you pick out a motherboard that will fit a Socket 478 Pentuem 4 processor. It’s also always a good idea to purchase a motherboard with more slots (pci and memory) than you currently need, so you can have room for expansion.

I have a great deal of knowledge in aspects ranging from Internet Administration to software programming to hardware and component installation. In my studies I have come to realize that there are very general things even the most casual computer user should know how to do in order to keep their computer running at its peak performance.

I feel the need to share my knowledge with any and everybody who has the desire I do to learn everything there is to know about the most revolutionary entity in our society. I try my best to explain everything in layman’s terms without using a bunch of technical jargon. Also I’ve realized that there are a lot of people charging people an arm and a leg to give very common computer advise which is not worth that much at all. The Nokia N81 Mobile Phone Review

May 11th, 2008 by libbybrady200

Nokia has been putting out 8 GB versions of phones a lot these days. Some have increased features over their predecessors while some do have stripped down features and n81 is one of them. It’s a 3G phone which has been available since November 2007. It comes in dimensions of 102×50x18mm and weights cool 140 grams which is quite a lot as compared to other mobile phones with similar storage even in the Nokia’s stable like the N95-8GB which is almost 20grams lighter than the n81.

Also the display is just 2.4 inches which is too common with almost all the phones these days and if Nokia is targeting this device in the leagues of gaming consoles then probably it should give a second thought to its decisions. The display otherwise is clear and crisp and is visible in sunlight. Also there is less problem of pixilation as the QVGA resolution is not stretched to bigger screens thereby the icons are more of a photos than matrix of dots.

The navi-wheel is a new concept here which is an iPod styled browsing interface put in it, though menus can’t be scrolled with it. This may be removed by Nokia in firmware up gradation. The phonebook allows practically unlimited entries with the call records available for 3o days.

The multimedia is also very good as the phone is equipped with an ample amount of display screen estate which utilizes the 8GB capacity of its storage to the maximum. However the support for current popular video formats like Divx and AVI is missing here. The pencil key which was one of the prominent features in the Nokia phones used to edit the text is missing and instead of it the editing is integrated into the right soft key itself.

The buttons in the device are too hard and tactile to give a feedback for pressing them, so samsung would be bit of inconvenient. Overall verdict says that the n81 does need a lot of more features to keep itself in the league of other mobiles in its class. But for music and gaming its performance is perfectly acceptable

Download Full DVD Movies Free - Are They Really Free?

May 10th, 2008 by libbybrady200

Throw the question of whether anyone wants to download full DVD movies free and you would likely hear a resounding YES. But are there really free DVD movies for you to download. People search all the time online to download full DVD movies free. Some found places where they can indeed download free movies but I can tell you that there are real pitfalls you have to watch out if you want to download full DVD movies free. I would also share with you what are some of the other alternatives.

Before we go further, I want you to know that this article is meant for informational purposes so that you know for a fact what really is going on with sites that allow you to download full DVD movies for free. Essentially, one out of two of such free sites are Peer-To-Peer (P2P) file sharing networks. The concept of P2P is like what the name suggests, file sharing. Amateur movie producers sometimes do upload their home created movies online for you to download. Whatever it is, you may experience some of these common problems when downloading full DVD movies online. Be prepared.

1. Poor And Incomplete Downloading

Since they offer you a chance to download full DVD movies for free, many jump at the offer and flood the sites. As a result, the websites are overloaded and the downloading would be slow. At times, the servers would go bonkers and you end up with an incomplete download.

2. Illegally Uploaded Movies

While the P2P networks are meant for file sharing which is a good thing, some abuses the system and start uploading movies with copyright onto the network. So before you download full DVD movies online, be sure to check the clauses and terms and conditions of each site carefully. Do not get trapped downloading pirated movies.

3. In-House Proprietary Client Applications

Some networks require you to download their proprietary client in order to download full DVD movies. You may be wondering why they do not allow you to use your browser to do so. Well, you see, the catch here is that the client applications can sometimes, not always, bring in adware and other malware into your computer. And each time you download a media file, be ready to watch some commercial pop-ups and so on. Irritating pop-ups are but one kind of nuisance you can be getting. To uninstall some of these client applications can be challenging to the point that you may have to either buy expensive anti-adware software or reformat your computer completely.

These may have sounded scary to you. But it is important that you know the threats and risks associated with downloading full DVD movies online for free. Still, all is not gone. If you want to download full DVD movies, there are places where you can do so at affordable rates. Look out for movie download stores that are offering memberships. Several of these popular sites come with secured downloading networks, quick download speeds and excellent customer support. Find out where you can download full DVD movies for less than a penny at my movie blog and enjoy a great movie in minutes from now.

How To Connect Your Computer To Your Home Theater

May 8th, 2008 by libbybrady200

These days, a computer can act a lot more like an entertainment device than ever before. You can watch online video, listen to music, view pictures and more!

But who wants to sit in their home office on a desktop computer or sit at a notebook computer to do this? “Not I, said the cat.” Listening through cheap computer speakers and watching video on a computer monitor is not my idea of real entertainment; how about you?

Why not connect your computer’s audio and video to your home entertainment system? You can watch TV shows, movies, and videos on your HDTV or any other TV with appropriate inputs. You can listen to music through your home stereo if it has AUX, VIDEO, or any other input using a standard RCA connection.

Connecting Computer Video to Your TV:

To connect the video, your computer must have an output for which your TV has a matching input.

Virtually every computer comes with a VGA output of some kind. The plug for this looks almost rectangular (you can see one by locating where you computer monitor connects to the back end of your desktop computer).

Another video output connection many computers may have is S-Video. This is a round connection. S-Video plugs have 4 tiny round holes (2 on each side) and a tiny rectangular hole in the bottom. S-Video cables have a round end with 4 tiny metal prongs and a tiny rectangular piece of plastic at the bottom.

However, many televisions do not have VGA inputs and only some have S-Video inputs. If yours doesn’t, you’ll need to make sure it at least has an RCA video input (this is a very standard connection which is used to connect record players, VCRs and CD players to other devices). If your TV came out since the early to mid 1990s it most likely has a standard RCA video input.

If your TV does have an RCA video input, simply buy a VGA to TV Converter. This will connect to your computer’s VGA output and provide RCA and S-Video connections (which are standard inputs found on most TVs since the 1990s).

Make sure you have the proper cables for your TV. Depending on which type of input your TV uses, you’ll need an RCA cable, an S-Video cable or a VGA cable.

Connecting Computer Sound to Your TV, Stereo or Home Theater System:

Now that the hard part is out of the way, the sound is easy. Simply buy a Y-cord. It should contain a stereo male 1/8″ on one end and two RCA males on the other end. Just ask your local electronics store; this is a standard cable they will all most-likely carry in-stock.

Connect the stereo 1/8″ male end to the green jack on your computer (usually on the back of desktop computers and on the front or side of notebook computers) where your speakers would normally connect.

Alternatively, you may connect the 1/8″ to the headphone jack on your computer. (Note: any device with a headphone jack can connect to your home theater, such as an iPod using this same cord!)

Connect the two RCA males to the L and R input jacks on your TV, Home Theater or Stereo. And you’re done! Just make sure to select the right setting (AUX, VIDEO, etc.) on your stereo or receiver.

Enjoy online content in all the glory you’ve enjoyed content from TV, DVD, CD, and the radio! There’s already tons of online content available on major broadcasting sites, and there will be more as the future moves forward.

If you don’t have a DVD player but there is a DVD drive on your computer, this setup will turn your computer into a DVD player! Once connected, call the store from whom you bought your computer and ask how to play a DVD on the computer.
